The Finger Lakes Wine Country Tourism Marketing Association was chosen by
Georgia Tech for its approach to tourism research. The association's research is
conducted by Longwoods International, a renowned independent Toronto-based
travel research firm.
Once again Finger Lakes Wine Country finds itself in the company of much larger
destinations. Other tourism organizations selected to receive this honor in a
variety of other categories included: the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau,
the San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau, the California Division of
Tourism, Visit Florida, the Nashville (Tenn.) Convention and Visitors Bureau, the
Oregon Tourism Commission, the International Association of Convention and
Visitors Bureaus and the Vienna University of Economics and Business
Administration, Institute of Tourism and Leisure Studies (Austria).
Based at Georgia Tech's Economic Development Institute, TRACS' primary goal
is to provide innovative economic development assistance focused on tourism.
This is an effort to help the local and national tourism industry adopt successful
approaches to research, funding, professional development, information
dissemination, advocacy and web marketing.
The TRACS' best-practices guidebook is scheduled for publication in the fall.
The publication, comprising successful case studies or models, will bridge gaps
in information and improve methods in the expanding worldwide tourism industry.
