Many Americans Plan First Trip Since Pandemic in Next Six Weeks
According to the most recent Longwoods International tracking study of American travelers, almost half (48%) of American travelers are planning their first trip since the pandemic struck the U.S. between now and the July 4th holiday weekend. The most popular trip planned during this time frame is a car trip of less than 200 miles to visit family and friends, chosen by 15% of travelers. Half (52%) of American travelers do not plan to travel before the 4th of July holiday.
“Perhaps driven by the reopening happening in states and cities around the country, many Americans are planning to get back on the road in early summer,” said Amir Eylon, President and CEO of Longwoods International. “Encouragingly, we’re seeing a slow but steady decline in the impact of the pandemic on longer-term future travel plans.”
The percentage of American travelers who say coronavirus will greatly impact their travel decisions in the next six months continues to decline, falling to 53%, down from a peak of 67% on April 1. The impact of the pandemic on future travel is at its lowest level since mid-March. And the percentage of American travelers with travel plans in the next six months remains fairly steady at 71%.
The survey, supported by Miles Partnership, was fielded May 20, 2020 using a national sample randomly drawn from a consumer panel of 1,000 adults, ages 18 and over. Quotas were used to match Census targets for age, gender, and region to make the survey representative of the U. S. population.
