Visitors spending more nights and spending more money in Pikes Peak region

COLORADO SPRINGS — New numbers show visitors pumped an average of $6.6 million a day into the Pikes Peak Region economy last year. The research by Longwoods International also shows more people are booking rooms to stay here multiple days.

More people year after year has been a trend. Tourism leaders are happy to learn, a lot of people are also making return visits. "We have a high propensity of people who came back to Colorado Springs, because they realize that they can't just do it all in one trip," said Visit Colorado Springs, President & CEO, Doug Price. Research shows 72% of visitors questioned said they had visited the region previously.

There is another positive trend. Visitors booking and staying multiple nights. An increase during 2018 to 3.2 nights, compared to 2.8 nights the previous year. They spent $1.7 billion dollars in 2018, which is a 7% increase. It is a way of increasing dollars without increasing people and the possible wear and tear on local attractions. "Really make sure that we don't get caught up in just the numbers of people,” said Price, “We want people to come and we want them to spend the night. We want them to spend two nights."
