Pure Michigan lures more out-of-state visitors; campaign targets Canada, Germany and England

Pure Michigan's advertising campaign attracted more than 4 million out-of-state visitors in 2013, an increase of roughly 300,000 over 2012, according to a study released Tuesday at the Pure Michigan Governor's Conference on Tourism held near Traverse City.
"These results demonstrate the effectiveness of Pure Michigan and provide a strong foundation for continued growth in Michigan's tourism industry," Gov. Rick Snyder said in a statement.

"The investments we are making in our national advertising campaign and out-of-state marketing are bringing new travelers and more spending to Michigan," said George Zimmermann, the state's top travel official, said in a statement. "As awareness about Michigan as a national travel destination continues to grow, we are also laying the groundwork to be part of the conversation for international travelers planning to visit the United States."
