American Travel Sentiment Wave 101
According to the latest Longwoods International tracking study of American travelers, 70% of them will visit friends and relatives on holiday trips season, up from 61% last year. And they are planning their holiday trips with family, with 50% traveling with their spouse/partner, 35% traveling with their children and 18% traveling with their parents.
“In addition to visiting friends and family during the holidays, other popular activities on these trips will include shopping, viewing holiday lights displays, attending local fairs and festivals and state and national parks,” said Amir Eylon, President and CEO of Longwoods International. “However, the percentage of travelers participating in each of those other activities is down from four to nine percent when compared with 2024.”
Fifty-five percent of travelers will hit the road during the holiday travel season, while 30% will be flying to their holiday destinations. While 23% of travelers plan fewer trips during the holidays, up 6% from last year, 18% of them plan more travel this year.
The survey, supported by Miles Partnership, was fielded October 7, 2025, using a national sample randomly drawn from a consumer panel of 1,000 adults, ages 18 and over. Quotas were used to match Census targets for age, gender, and region to make the survey representative of the U.S. population.
