According to the latest Longwoods International tracking study of American travelers, 29% of them plan to take more trips in 2026 than in 2025, while only 19% expect to take fewer trips.   Fifty-two percent of travelers plan to take about the same number of trips as last year.

“With the increased number of trips planned by many travelers, we also can report that 31% of travelers expect to spend more on travel in 2026, while 17% plan to spend less than last year,” said Amir Eylon, President and CEO of Longwoods International.  “Fifty-two percent of travelers expect to spend about the same amount as in 2025.”

With many travelers taking more trips and spending more on travel, 33% of travelers plan to take their next trip by domestic airline, up 5.1 points from January 2025.  The percentage planning to drive to their next destination is 58%, down 4.9 points from January 2025.

The survey, supported by Miles Partnership, was fielded January 6 – 9, 2026, using a national sample randomly drawn from a consumer panel of 1,000 adults, ages 18 and over.  Quotas were used to match Census targets for age, gender, and region to make the survey representative of the U.S. population.
