American Travel Sentiment Study - Wave 91
2024 Presidential Election Results Positive for Travel Planning

According to the latest Longwoods International tracking study of American travelers, 21% of them report they will travel more in the U.S. in the coming year, and 7% will travel more internationally, because of the results of the 2024 presidential election.  In contrast, only 8% said they will travel less domestically, and 3% will travel less internationally during the next 12 months.

“The boost in the intent to travel may well be a result of optimism about the U.S. economy as a result of the 2024 presidential election,” said Amir Eylon, President and CEO of Longwoods International.  “In fact, 43% of travelers believe they will be better off the next four years, versus 21% who think they will be worse off.”

Despite traveler bullishness about the U.S. economy, concern among travelers about inflation has been creeping up during 2024, with 31% saying inflation will greatly impact their travel decisions in the next six months, up from 26% in January.  Among travelers who are planning trips during the holiday season, 57% are planning to travel by car, and 28% plan to fly to their destinations.

The survey, supported by Miles Partnership, was fielded November 7, 2024 using a national sample randomly drawn from a consumer panel of 1,000 adults, ages 18 and over.  Quotas were used to match Census targets for age, gender, and region to make the survey representative of the U. S. population.
