Canadian Travel Sentiment Towards the U.S. – October 2026 Update
According to the latest Longwoods International tracking study of Canadian travelers, 31% of them traveled to the U.S. in the past six months, little changed from a year ago. And while 18% of them canceled trips to the U.S., down from 23% in October of 2025, the percentage of Canadian travelers with no intent to visit the U.S. during the past six months rose from 47% a year ago to 51% in the latest survey.
“We know Canadian travelers rate the U.S. highly as a great travel destination,”, said Amir Eylon, President and CEO of Longwoods International. “But the combination of American politics and policies, higher prices and the exchange rate are holding back Canadian travel to the U.S.”
When asked if they intend to travel to the U.S. in the next 12 months, 47% said that they do plan a U.S. trip, up from 39% in April of 2025. Among those Canadian travelers who do not plan to travel to the U.S. in the next twelve months, 70% reported that an improved political relationship between the U.S. and Canada would make them more likely to visit the U.S., while 40% cited that a more favorable exchange rate would be a positive factor for U.S. travel.
The survey was fielded October 5-8, 2026 using a national sample randomly drawn from a consumer panel of 1,000 Canadian adults, ages 18 and over. The sample is representative of Canadian demographics for age, gender and province.
