Four Year Slump Ends With Rise In Tourism Spending In Maine

Figures being released Friday by the Maine tourism office show the total number of overnight trips to the state grew by 9% and the number of overnight vacationers grew by 12% in 2005.
All told, those travelers spent more than 3 billion dollars on on meals, lodging, purchases and services. That’s an increase of 15%.

The figures are part of a report prepared for Maine’s tourism office by Longwoods International, a Canadian travel research firm.
